Pharmacy Discount Card Offers Charity Donation With Each Retail Transaction
Jan 25, 2022National Coordination Center recently introduced GiveBackRx, a pharmacy discount card that allows the user to make a donation to the charity of their choice with every prescription they purchase. The GiveBackRx transaction process is simple, and the results are far-reaching for 401(c)3 organizations. Consumers sign up for a GiveBackRx discount card online, GiveBackRx shops for the lowest prescription drug prices at nearby pharmacies, and GiveBackRx donates a portion of the discounted retail price to a charity of the consumer’s choice. In other words—Sign up, use the card at your local pharmacy, receive a discount on your medications, and automatically contribute to your favorite charity. Initial users have called the GiveBackRx discount card program simple and worthwhile. “There are three winners in the GiveBackRx transaction,” says Dr. Kevin Carr, National Coordination Center’s Chief Executive Officer. “First is consumers, who pay the lowest price possible in their local area for prescription medication. Second is retail pharmacies, which receive payment at a profitable, prenegotiated amount. And third is a registered charity of the consumer’s choice, which receives contributions from an entirely new donation channel.” Consumers can select one of three levels of GiveBackRx participation when they sign up for a card. The standard discount option allows card users to download a coupon to use during a transaction at the retail pharmacy. Option two is the free Silver card, which offers a slightly higher discount. The third choice is the Gold card, priced at $5.00 per month, which offers the maximum discount. All three card options entitle the user to exercise the charitable donation feature. Additionally, GiveBackRx tracks cardholders’ pharmacy receipts, tallies transaction totals, and helps manage health care expenses. To date, more than 65,000 pharmacies across the nation accept the GiveBackRx card. Participating retail pharmacies include Costco, CVS, Target, Walgreens, and Walmart.
